Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is _____________________ and I would like to draw your attention to
an issue that is being neglected and one you as a corporate leader can
help address. That issue is global hunger.
Did you know that:
- the number of hungry people worldwide is actually on the rise again
and now tops 800 million?
- 25,000 people a day die of hunger and hunger related illnesses and
most are small children under 5?
- hunger and malnutrition kill more people that HIV/AIDS,
tuberculosis and malaria combined?
As a supporter of the World Food Program I would like to encourage you to
contribute to the fight against global hunger. It is the most important
humanitarian challenge we face today. That is why I am writing to ask that
____________________ become involved by contributing to World Food Program
projects that deliver food aid to the most desperate people in the world --
refugees displaced by violence and poor families whose lives have been
scarred by poverty, natural disasters, and AIDS. Last year WFP assisted
over 100 million people. Despite this formidable achievement, lack of
funds prevented WFP from feeding millions more in terrible need.
As a student, I am particularly interested in WFP's 19 Cents a Day
Campaign. At a cost of only 19 cents, or $35 a year, WFP can provide a
meal in school for a poor child and these meals have acted as a magnet
drawing millions of new students to schools, especially young girls, in
countries like Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh.
School feeding can transform the lives of poor students. Paul Tergat --
now the world record holder for the marathon -- often tells people that he
could never have attended school or started his running career if it had
not been for WFP school feeding in his home country of Kenya.
Education is so critical to making a better and safer world for us all.
How hard would it be for your employees at ___ to sponsor school feeding
for just one child each?

Thanks so much for your time and, I hope, your help.
Sincerely,
